December 2000 - PIGTAILS

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

Only a few weeks until the end of the year. Time seems to fly by when you’re having fun. I’m going into my third year as director and I’m still having fun. I would like to thank everybody who put a 100% into our club the last year. You have made my job a lot easier. I hope we see a good turn out for our party in Jan. The more that come, the more people that can do the turtle with me. I’m looking forward to a new year, with a new fundraiser, new rides and a lot of miles on our Harley. Happy holidays hope to see you next month.

2001 DUES ARE DUE

Here we are again, another year gone by the wayside and it’s time to renew our membership to the Adirondack Harley Club. It was voted on at last months meeting that it’s time to raise the dues to $10 per person due to the increase in materials for the monthly newsletter. Stamps are increasing to .34 cents in January and we will be searching for a printing company to copy off the newsletter. So, as of January 2001, the dues are due and the checks can be made out to “Adirondack Harley Club” and sent to Debbie Harrington at PO Box 301, Hudson Falls NY 12839. Enclosed are registration forms, please fill them completely and return ASAP. It’s also been suggested that your newsletter can be sent to you by e-mail. There is a spot on the registration form to put your address if you want it that way. Isn’t technology great??!!

HOLIDAY FAMILIES

Quite a few Ladies of Harley (Carol Casey, Fran Donbeck, Nancy Braynack, Cindy Bishop, Joanne Wilson, Debbie Harrington & Debbie Granger) had a great time shopping for the two Thanksgiving families that the club sponsored. The first family lived in Glens Falls and had a 7-year-old and a 10-month-old. That food was definitely appreciated. The second family had 2 adults with an 11, 5, and 2-year-old twins.

We did good as usual and Christmas is just around the corner!!

CHRISTMAS FAMILY

This year’s Christmas is a family of 4 kids and a mom, so we decided to do just the one family instead of 2 small families like we’ve done in the past. We have:

Nicole – 9 - size 9, pj’s, jeans, pretty shirts, portable CD player with CD’s for dancing, password journal

Terrin – 5 – size 5, pj’s, roller blades, anything with Barbie’s, shirts

Kaylie – 3 – size 4 toddler, jeans, shirts, underwear, toys for 18 month old (things that light up), baby dolls

Dametrick – 4 mos. – clothes, tee-shirts, pj’s

Santa’s shoppers have been out there already getting the great buys. Most of the items on the wish lists have been bought and paid for. The stockings and stocking stuffers are taken care of. Fran Donbeck has a list of those interested in helping out with the shopping and wrapping, so she will be in touch with you real soon. If anyone else is interested in being a Santa’s helper, just call Fran at 798-8088 and she will put you to work. Word has it, she’s looking to have a wrapping party at her house and I know for a fact she serves great wine!! T’is the season!!!

WANTED

If anyone owns a Santa’s outfit or knows where we can get one, please contact Fran Donbeck. These kids would love to see Santa deliver their packages.

HOLIDAY PARTY

The deadline is coming up quick and Fran Donbeck needs to have your reservations by December 31. It’s at the Fort William Henry in Lake George on January 13th, 2001 at 6:30 PM. The cost is $29.75 per person (no refunds) and the Fort has cheap accommodations if you need a room to stay. We Harley people know how to dress up and have a great time!! The more the merrier!!

50-50 WINNER

Alan Baird was the happy winner at last months meeting with $26 and he donated it back to the Christmas family. Thanks Alan!!

AMA NEWS

Harvey Collins was nominated Alternate Congressman. Congratulations Harvey!

Rob Riser is AMA’s new president. I’m sure we will be hearing a lot from Rob.

PAC (Political Action Committee) has joined with District 34 – NY City area. The bigger, the stronger. Tom McDermott donated a jacket to PAC be raffled off. Contact John Rucinski or Harvey Collins for details.

Senator Bruno contacted AMA and informed them that he’s sitting on the bill that will require 2 yearly inspections for bikes. AMA’s interpreting that this bill won’t go anywhere and probably won’t be passed. Let’s hope.

2001 RIDING SEASON

George Braynack, our newly appointed 2001 Assistant Director, is organizing a list of riding events for 2001. If anyone is interested or aware of a ride coming up, please contact George at 623-9439. We need to ride more as a club and have fun doing it.

NEXT MEETING

There won’t be a monthly meeting in December, so we’ll see you in January. Howard Johnson’s in Lake George is the choice on January 21st. Breakfast at 9:30 and meeting at 10:30. The board meeting will be at McDermott’s shop on January 19th at 7:00 PM with the new elected 2001 board members. See you there!!

GET WELL SOON

Gary Bates is recovering from surgery and word has it he’s recovering quite well. It’s hard to keep a good Harley man down. Keep Gary in your prayers and we hope to see him around soon.

2001 FUND RAISER

The club has decided to sponsor 2 needy organizations for our annual Poker Run. Amanda’s House in Glens Falls and the Fort Ann Rescue Squad. The rescue squad is very excited about this and wants to help out in any way they can. They want to help in the planning of the food prep and even where it can be held.

Their board meeting was held on November 27th and a few of our club members attended to discuss the options and begin the planning. May will be here before we all know it and with a little luck, the weather will be much better next summer.

OCTOBERFEST

Several of our club members went to the Octoberfest in Florida in October and had a ball. I kept hearing from the guys “great scenery!!”
