February 2001 - PIGTAILS

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

I hope everyone is enjoying our cold winter so far this year. The only good part of this weather is that we’ll appreciate our bike season more. We can also spend more time on our fundraiser.  Joann Wilson has already put together an outline for this event that will make things run a little smoother. The next meeting will be a big one for our planning. I couldn’t get the Meeting Place because that weekend is a big ski weekend. We will hold it at Jacks Place, February 18.   Hope to see everybody there with a lot of good ideas.

Next time you’re at McDermott’s shop, make sure you say “hi” to Tom.  He’s doing well after his test in Boston and I hear he gave the nurses and doctor’s a run for their money.

RE-VAMPING OUR WEB SITE

For those who haven’t been on the internet lately and checked out our home page, your missing a lot. Thanks to Dave Guay, our computer buff, our home page looks fantastic. Let him know your e-mail address and he’ll have it listed so others can communicate back and forth. And it’s also a great way to receive your monthly newsletter! Thanks Dave for all your hard work—but keep it up!!!

 HOLIDAY PARTY

Once again a great time was had by all. The food was great, George had a  great time handing out boobie prizes and Mark Johnson did a great job with the music. Anyone needing a good DJ in the future, just give him a call.  And for those wondering, yes the “turtle” struck again! Thanks to Fran Donbeck for all her timely effort in setting up this great festivity.

Welcome and don't let the stories out there intimidate you.  We're actually a nice bunch of Harley people once you get to know us!

AMA NEWS

A lot has been happening in the AMA world lately.  Congratulations to Bob Avery for being elected chair of Lane County Republican Party of Oregon.  He’s a long time BIKEPAC of Oregon Activist and wears his denim jacket & club patch to all functions.

District 34 & 4 have joined the local NY State Political Action Committee. Now we have the means to start.

AMA Award Dinner again will be held at the Quarry Steakhouse in Climax, NY on April 22nd.  They are looking for awards to be given out, so anyone who would like to nominate a worthy candidate, just call John Rucinski.  And he will also keep us informed on the pricing and time of the dinner.

UPCOMING LIST

George Braynack is doing a great job in planning a 2001 riding list. Anyone who would like to plan a ride anytime this summer, just contact George @ 623-9439 and he’d be glad to add it to his busy list. Remember too, the bulletin board at McDermott’s shop is available for anyone to write messages or up-coming events.  It’s hanging up by the front door for everyone to see.

 INTERNATIONAL MOTORCYCLE SHOW

February 24, 2001, at the Jacob Javits Convention Ctr. in NYC, $25 p.p.-includes continental breakfast, 50-50 and transportation (doesn’t include price of show).  Leaving K-mart parking lot on Rt. 155 & 5, at 7:00 AM.  No refunds after Feb 17th.  For more details, call Pat @ 270-5235 or send an E-mail to: roamepat@aol.com.

2001 POKER RUN

Believe it or not, a years gone by already and it’s time to start planning our annual fund-raiser.  This year the club has voted to focus on two needy organizations and they are “Amanda’s House” and “The Fort Ann Rescue Squad.”   The proceeds will be split 50-50 and both organizations are eager to help out as much as they can.  Joann Wilson is already organizing the posters and Wayne LaMothe has graciously agreed to help out with that project.

Anyone with artistic ability is asked to put together designs for the pins that will be made up. Remember, the pins are small so the simpler-the better.

Our road captains are planning a short and long ride that will start at McDermott’s shop and end up Comstock Prison, where the festivities will take place.

At the next meeting, ideas and opinions will be welcome.  There is still a lot of planning to do and hopefully a lot of hands will be raised or George will nominate you (he’s real good at that!!)

NEXT MEETING

February 16th is the next board meeting at McDermott’s shop at 7:00 PM and the meeting is the 18th at Jack’s Place in Corinth.  9:30 AM breakfast and 10:30 AM meeting.  They have the best breakfast buffet around and the service is great too.

Bring your suggestions and be ready to raise your hand a lot.  The Adirondack Poker Run has always been a great success and that’s because to the true dedication and hard work that everyone puts out.

50-50 WINNER

Lucky Dave Guay was last months 50-50 winner with a whooping $38.
