March 2001 - PIGTAILS

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

February is almost gone and some lucky members are making that trip to bike week. For the rest of us we have to look for a couple of months of cold weather. But this gives us the chance to work on our Poker Run, which is going great. We have made contact with both groups to see what we are going to need. The list is out and now the next thing to work on is the donations. If we get the same number of donations as last year, we will be doing good. If we get more, we will be doing great. Considering having a different benefit this year we are running right on schedule. That should not come as a surprise to anyone. We always get a 100% from our members. And just think about after the poker run. The list of events that George and his group put together will give us a full summer. The next meeting, which will be an important one will be at the Meeting Place, Rt. 9 in Lake George, at 9:30 and 10:30 meeting. Hope to see everyone their.

AMA NEWS

The annual award dinner is scheduled for April 22 at the Quarry Steakhouse in Climax, NY. Tickets will be available at the next meeting. John Rucinski is looking for ideas for awards that you feel are well deserved. Sincere awards or even jokester awards are welcome.

AMA dues are now $30 per person.

ABATE is Vermont is up and running. The Blue Knights bike blessing ceremony will be on May 20th.  Add this to your list of upcoming events.

The helmet law in Vermont is questionable and there’s loopholes in their wording, so naturally, Paul Butler’s putting a bug in their ears.

2001 POKER RUN

Here we go again!! Another year, another fund-raiser! The planning’s begun and now all we need is warm weather and running motorcycles.

Wayne LaMothe has once again put together a beautiful poster. There will be plenty to spread around the local area for advertisement.

The menu was voted on at last months meeting and it is:

Hot dogs, hamburgs, sausage with peppers and onions, baked beans, potato and macaroni salad, chips, soda, lemon ade, ice tea and coffee. And lets not forget the best dessert table around!!

We will need to know at March’s meeting what you want to donate and if you have any door prizes, please bring them then. We will have the cooking equipment available to us and plenty of help setting up and breaking down, all we need is the food. If anyone knows of an organization who would like to donate to two worthy causes, please feel free to look them up. The more we get in contributions and donations, the more money we will have at the end to donate towards our causes.

Mark Johnson and his crew are working on a long and short ride.

The pin design was voted on at last months meeting. There were 4 good designs to choose from and by show of hands the club chose the one by Dave Guay. Again, first come; first serve to the first 300 registrants.

Both Amanda’s House and the Fort Ann Rescue Squad are eager to help out, whether it’s the cooking, setting up and organizing the activities. Each group can do their own thing to raise money at the Poker Run. 50-50, bake sales, craft items, etc..

NEXT MEETING

March’s monthly meeting will be at the Meeting Place, the 18th.  Breakfast at 9:30 AM and the meeting will be held in the back banquet room at 10:30. There will be a lot of hand raising and planning for the annual Poker Run. Joanne Wilson is organizing the gang from Amanda’s House and the Fort Ann Rescue Squad to join us and put any input they may have. Bring your ideas and suggestions.

The board meeting will be on March 16th at 7:00 PM at McDermott’s shop. See you there!
