May 2001 - PIGTAILS

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

Our April meeting was a full house! The Poker Run is just about nailed down and I would like to thank Joann Wilson and everybody who is making this a great success. I still, after three years am amazed at how everybody comes together and seems to have fun doing it.

We have a ride this Sunday, May 6th and if it is anything like the ride after this past meeting you can count on a good time. Hope to see you then. Remember after the Poker Run we can have fun the rest of the season!!!

UPCOMING RIDES

Our busy road captains have been planning weekend rides for those interested in getting away for an afternoon or longer.  Sunday, May 6th is the first of those rides. If interested, we’ll see you at exit 18 McDonalds at 10:00 AM gassed up and ready to do some serious riding. This is routed out by none other than Steve Bishop, and if I know Steve Bishop, we can count on lunch and getting a Martha’s ice cream. Hope to see you there!

Keep your eye open on the bulletin board at McDermott’s shop for other upcoming rides and events.

AMA NEWS

AMA AWARD DINNER

Congratulations to Tom McDermott for winning the AMA Lifetime Achievement Award. It’s amazing what one person can accomplish. Good going Tom!! And also congratulations to John Rucinski for his Volunteer Award. It’s well deserved.

POKER RUN

It will be here before you know it.  Everything looks good and is coming together. All the food is donated and spoken for, the pins are ordered and on their way, the trophies are taken care of, the registration table and stops are planned, and some door prizes have already been donated. For anyone who will bake a dessert for our delicious dessert table, or donate a door prize, or need to drop off their food, please have it to Debbie Harrington or Joanne Wilson by Saturday morning, May 19th.  Along with your donations, please have the name and address of the donor so that a thank you letter can go out to them afterwards.

Between Amanda’s House and the Fort Ann Rescue Squad, set up and clean up will be taken care of. Volunteers from our club will be greatly appreciated to help in between.

After April’s meeting, quite a few bikes went for a ride to check out the poker run route. The final stop is equipped with a pavilion, picnic tables, rest rooms and plenty of parking space. The warm, sunny weather has been ordered for May be 20th and then we’ll be all set.

Safety is #1 at any event we attend. If anyone sees someone in trouble, please get a hold of George Polunci right away so that he can take care of things.

Remember – ride and have fun!!

NEXT MEETING

May 20th, our poker run will be considered our next meeting. June’s monthly meeting will be announced in next month’s newsletter.

AMERICADE

As in the past, doughnuts will be served at McDermott’s shop during the morning hours throughout Americade. For those who like to bake and for those who don’t, McDermott’s is looking for baked goods to serve their hungry afternoon crowd. Please feel free to drop off some cookies, cupcakes or brownies any day the first week of June. It will be greatly appreciated and welcomed.

PEDIATRIC BRAIN TUMOR FOUNDATION

One of our members, Dave Palonis is sponsoring a raffle for the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation. The tickets can be bought at McDermott’s shop until Mother’s Day and the winner can take home Raggedy Ann and Andy dolls. These would make a great Mother Day gift!! The tickets are $2 each or 3 for $5. All proceeds go toward research for the cause and cure for children with this terrible disease. Let’s show our support and help out for a great cause. The drawing is only a few weeks away so act on it now.

E-MAILING THE NEWSLETTER

Check it out, Dave Guay’s done a fantastic job in setting it up. With today’s technology, we can now send letters and newsletters over the computer. Who woulda thunk!!? Anyone interested in receiving their newsletter this way, please contact Carol Casey @ 642-4636 or Dave Guay @ 792-9973. This will cut down on the monthly cost of printing and postage.  Most of us live on the internet these days anyway, so WWW.AMADIST3.COM/AHC aand it’s always at the top of the monthly newsletter.
