October 2001 - PIGTAILS

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

After the attack on NYC and the other targets in America where are we heading? All we can hope is our leaders think before they act. At this last meeting in Rutland, we had a good turn out and we managed to collect one hundred and sixty dollars towards the NYC relief fund. I just received a letter from Harley and they too have donated a large sum of money for the relief fund. I know Harley makes a large profit, but they didn’t have to donate one million dollars. On October 7, our chapter will be riding to the state capital for a fund-raiser to benefit the NYC fireman, and Police Benevolent Association Widows and Children’s Fund. Paul Wells from, GO SLO Engineering has put together this ride after making a trip to Ground 0 in New York. He has flyers going out through Drag Specialties, which will be dropped off in shops all over the surrounding states. If you can make this ride, which will probably be the last one of this season, I know this will give the feeling of doing something to help out. Hope to see you there.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to

Tom McDermott who just went thru surgery. He’s doing well and it just goes to show, you can’t keep a good Harley man down!  See you soon, Tom.

MAINE TOY RUN

Was a great hit for those who attended. 11 bikes from our club showed up and the weather couldn’t have better. We have quite a few serious partiers in this club!! 1000’s of bikes showed up with great gifts for the kids in Maine. Remember, this is state organized and even the governor rides in on his bike. George and Carol (soon to be Polunci) had breakfast with Governor Angus and everything was going fine until David Baird showed up and started to eat off the governor’s plate!! Not a good thing. Next year, David has to bring two toys!!

AMA NEWS

Nothing to report for the month of October 2001.

NEW HAMPSHIRE SEAFOOD FEASTIVAL

Love seafood? Try the Hampton Beach annual seafood feast. 5 couples from the club went and had a great time. Wonderful food, friends and weather!!

NEXT MEETING

Tradition is going to be broken in October 2001. Because the director, secretary, newsletter editor and several board members will be coming home from Florida on the Sunday we should be holding our monthly meeting, the club voted to have it the following week. October 28th at the new Golden Coral off exit 15, near the Walmart. If you need directions, please call George Polunci at 642-4636 or Debbie Harrington at

793-7564. Breakfast at 9:30 Am and meeting at 10:30 AM. October is a very important meeting because it’s election month. Board meeting is Oct. 26th at McDermotts at 7:00 PM.

THANK YOU

Sunday, August 26th, Nancy & George Braynack planned a club ride to Gloria’s Restaurant in Mineville and 18 bikes attended. For anyone who’s wondering where Mineville is, it’s way up north in God’s country and what a beautiful ride it was. If you’ve never been to Gloria’s, her desserts are to die for and everything is homemade!! Plan on putting a few pounds on, but it’s definitely worth it.  Thanks Nancy & George, we’ll follow you to Gloria’s anytime!!

KEEP IN YOUR PRAYERS

Ken Fleming from Glens Falls is still in the hospital after his serious motorcycle accident. Cards are always welcome and prayers are even better.

NEW MEMBERS

Welcome Ray Stratton from Saratoga to the club. Hope to see you at the next meeting and make sure to introduce yourself.

Elections

There are a couple officer openings to be voted on and if anyone is interested in being

a secretary, activity chairperson or Lady of Harley, this is the time to act. Although, I hear Paul Butler has the winning vote for the Ladies of Harley. What’s this world coming to!?  Or nominate someone who you feel would make a good officer. That person does need to be at the meeting to accept or deny. If you’re interested in being a Road Captain, Executive Board Member, just raise your hand and offer your services. We’re always looking for good men and women.

Noteworthy

Last months meeting in Rutland was a great success. The attendance was great and a nice ride to Ben & Jerry’s Ice Cream was planned afterwards. A hat was passed around for donations for McDermott’s relief fund for New York City’s tragedy.  $84 was collected, plus the 50-50 winner, Gene Ledda, graciously donated his winnings back to the cause. Nearly $220 was collected total for NYC’s fire, police disaster relief fund. For a long to come, we will need each others supporting hand and generosity.
