AMA MINUTES
MEETING OF NOV 15, 2004

Chairman Kevin Becker called the meeting to order at 7:34 p.m.
14 people were in attendance, representing 10 clubs.

Secretary’s Report: was read and accepted.
Treasurer’s Report:
General Fund: $1029.27
Emergency Fund: $2067.63
AMA Grant: $2000
Charity Fund has been dispersed to the Adopt a Soldier charity, $500 from the district and $315 from the Roamers
The report was accepted.
Legislative Report: Larry S. and Prospector and working with Canestrari’s aide on the Right of Way bill. There is a country-wide push for this type of bill. Our bill is looking to disrupt the lives of those who violate it by invoking license suspensions and/or revokation along with mandatory classes.
The judge will have final discretion on the sentence.

Larry M. is working on a legislator to sponsor the Handlebar Height bill.
Drafts are in process and will be brought to the meeting when finished.

Senator Hoffman was the sponsor for a helmet amendment bill, but may have not been re-elected to date. If she is not re-elected, a new sponsor must be found.
Otherwise, not too many consequentional changes in the legislature from the latest election. Democrats still control the Assembly and the Republicans still control the Senate.

Larry S. reported that the PAC is “healthy” but still needs funds - this month, Alb/Sch HOG raised $83 at their meeting and so we had $118 total for the meeting.

Old Business:
Banquet: This year’s banquet is at Quarry’s Steakhouse on April 2nd.
Cocktails at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30. Ticket price: $30. Your rep should have tickets to sell. Start thinking of those awards and door prizes!!!

Kevin Becker’s proposal for photos and captions for a slide show was positivly received by the Roamers, but no other clubs reported out. Any other ideas?

New Business:
Perks for AMA members on the local level:
-Denis Petrie reported that he worked out a deal with Elite Health and Fitness in Schenectady. AMA members can now receive the corporate rate
($300) which is $100 less than the usual rate.
-Bike shops do give discounts, but no one was clear on who. If you know of them please let me know and I can start a list.
-to think of ideas, ask “Why did you join AMA? What can you do to improve it?”
-John S proposed a unique district event to get people to join.

We brain-stormed ideas on how to cull new/young members - through competition? Have a “bike show” as part of an event? Events were seen as key, racing, etc.
-”buy a new bike, receive AMA membership for one year” Dealers are not doing this, but it worked for HOG. We would need to propose to AMA for them to do. Larry S. will get a consensus from the clubs at the Sanction meeting to see if they would be on board, if yes, then he will draft a letter to go to Congress as proposal.

Publications:
-Our only current publication is the trifold cart, which is very useful at shows.
-We can send the District 3 calender to the AMA magazine (see Denis).
-Denis is compiling w/ others to give to the state handouts for motorcycle friendly businesses and routes in the Adirondacks. The various counties are receptive, but progress and process are slow. They are using Nova Scotia as a model.
-District 3 newsletter? We could sell advertisements.

The AMA Director of State Programs, Sean Maher, is coming to the Sanction meeting, so if you have other ideas...

Kurt reported that he had trouble with the AMA national link to the District
3 website.

John S. reported that the Blue Knights will remain an AMA club after they held a meeting in which Larry S. explained why they should stay.

Larry M. reported that he got a personal call from Sean Maher to appologize for AMA’s failings this year. They have a new crop of people and so the organization should improve.

A letter was received from Robert Rasor, AMA President to all “Recognized Districts.” The letter states that mileage limits are no longer applicable is regards to sanctioned events due to “anti-competitve business practices.”
This means that any AMA club can hold an event regardless of whether another AMA club is having an event on the same day.

Nomination of Officers, Road Division: the current slate of officers was nominated to remain for another year. This will be voted on at the Sanction Meeting.

Max BMW is planning on sponsoring a club.
