AMA MINUTES
MEETING OF JAN 10, 2005
Chairman Kevin Becker called the meeting to order at 7:30 p.m.
16 people were in attendance, representing 9 clubs.
Secretary’s Report: was read and accepted. Last month’s report
was made possible by T Frier’s note taking at the December
meetings, which was greatly appreciated!
Treasurer’s Report:
General Fund: $1509.27
Emergency Fund: $2067.63
AMA Grant: $2000
The report was accepted.
Legislative Report: Larry S. reported that Prospector is ill.
-Right of Way bill is being drafted by Canistrari’s people.
-The Handle-bar Height bill will be reintroduced by Roebuck in
the Senate.
-On May 1st, the E-Z pass discount for motorcycles will go into
effect: 1.9 cents/mile for motorcycles versus 3.45 cents/mile
with a car, versus 3.9 cents/mile without EZ-pass at all. This
has been 3 1/2 years in the making, beginning with a bill to
lower tolls for motorcycles overall. There is no discount when
using cash because the powers that be see EZ-pass as the future
and want all to use it.
PAC - $48 this week.
Old Business:
-Mike Kuban’s call to give more money to the district overall:
Larry S. proposed $500 of the Grant money go to the district.
Denis P. noted that the proceeds from the district newsletter
would go to the district. He estimates $600-700 per year with
two newsletters a year.
The newsletter is still in the process of production, so would
not be an immediate fund maker.
Kevin B. suggested using the grant money this year but find a
yearly money-maker such as a raffle at Americaide. Suggestions
for a raffle included a 50/50, a bike raffle, etc. Denis noted
that these raffles work well at off-road events and that we
shouldn’t let Americaide pass us by.
-Fred S. suggested the clubs to raise money for the district by
having an “AMA 50/50” at their meetings.
-Denis P. updated the Elite Health and Fitness report to note
that they have Pilates classes which are great stretches for
endurance riders.
New Business:
-Denis Petrie reported that he is off to the Motorcycle show in
New York City to promote motorcycling and needed the events
calendar as a handout since the trifolds aren’t ready. The
secretary will compile the information from the sanction meeting
and pass it on to Denis. Hopefully we’ll have more turnout for
our events this year.
-Banquet: This year’s banquet is at Quarry’s Steakhouse on April
2nd.
Cocktails at 5:30 and dinner at 6:30. Ticket price: $30. Your
rep should have tickets to sell. Award nominations are due by
the March meeting!!! If you are having trouble selling tickets,
pitch the banquet as the Emergency Fund fundraiser that it is.
The ticket price breaks out to $20 for food and $10 for
fundraising.
