AMA MINUTES
MEETING OF MARCH 21, 2005
Chairman Kevin Becker called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.
18 people were in attendance, representing 9 clubs.
Secretary’s Report:
was read and accepted Treasurer’s Report:
General Fund: 1306.83
Emergency Fund: 2187.63
AMA Grant: 2000
The report was accepted.
Legislative Report:
Larry Schwartz and Prospector reported that:
-bill numbers have been given for the Yield Right of Way (S3410
and A4914), Handle Bar Height (S2768 and A787) and Helmet (S1953
and A2590). Please have your club write notes to the Assembly
and Senate members to support these bills. You can also go
online to the Assembly website (assembly.state.ny.us) and the
Senate website (senate.state.ny.us) to check out the bills and
contact the assembly people via email.
-starting May 1st, motorcyclists with EZpass will pay 1/2 the
price of a car on toll roads.
-Assemblyman Harvey Weisenberg has initiated a bill (A1073) to
make it illegal to operate a motorcycle with a seat height less
than 24 inches.
After speaking with him, it was determined that this is in
reference to “Pocket bikes” but may rule out some custom bikes.
Weisenberg is amenable to a re-write, so Larry and Prospector
are working on that.
-Senator Carl Marcellino has sponsored a bill (S649) raising the
price for a muffler infraction to $700, up from $100. Please
write to oppose this bill.
-Assemblywoman Donna Lapardo from Binghamton wants to draft
legislation to protect motorcyclists from arbitrary confiscation
by police. She is an ABATE member as well as being on the
Transportation Committee, so also a good ally.
-Assemblyman Bronsky is interested in writing legislation to
close the HIPA loophole. Oregon has passed such a bill and the
AMA is working on the Federal level.
-You are welcome to join Larry and Prospector on Tuesday to see
what they do and how they do it.
-The PAC received $206 this month, including contributions from
