AMA MINUTESDIVISION 3 ROAD DIVISION MEETING
OF JANUARY 16, 2006
Chairman Mark Catlin called the meeting to order at 7:31 p.m.
17 people were in attendance, representing 12 clubs.
Mark welcomed everyone and encouraged all to ask others who
are interested in attending to do so.
Secretary’s Report: was read and accepted.
Treasurer’s Report:
General Fund: $1507.02
Emergency Fund: $2768.88
AMA Grant: $1250
Charity Fund: $250
Monies for "Support our Troops" efforts: $63.
Mark M noted that 2 clubs are outstanding in their dues, but
the checks are in the mail.
The report was accepted.
Legislative Report:
nothing new to report at this time, but Larry and Prospector
are still working.
-The Yield-Right-of-Way bill is still treading in the Rules
Committee, but is expected to pass this session.
-Donna Lapardo is sponsoring a bill dealing with the
confiscation of motorcycles, especially custom types. This bill
has been written and is a good start. This issue will most
likely need more than one bill.
-Assemblyman Ortiz has a bill pending that will call for
every vehicle to have a breathalyzer to start your vehicle.
Prospector is looking into the wording to see if it will apply
to motorcycles. Larry and Prospector will try to kill this bill.
-The PAC received $186 during the meeting (checks from the
Roamers and Woodstock HOG as well as donations from the
attendees).
Old Business:
-Mark Catlin gave an update on Tammy Chamberlain, a CMA
member, who is still recovering and is out of critical
condition, but is still in the hospital and expects to be there
for at least 2 more months. She will be receiving money from the
Emergency Fund to help.
-Banquet: we only have 1-2 nominations so far. Larry S could
use 8-10 at least. Please think about who you would like to
acknowledge on April 22!
-Trifolds: the new info is headed to the printers this week,
to be followed by a proof and then the trifolds themselves.
-While Denis is writing a proposal for NYS PAC to be a model
for the rest of the country, he will also contact the AMA
Magazine to ask to include an informational piece about what
great things the PAC can accomplish. Larry S most likely will be
asked to write the article for inclusion in the magazine.
New Business:
-Prospector informed us that NHTSA (National Highway
Transportation Safety
Administration) is offering $250 million for Motorcycle
Safety Grants.
ABATE’s grant committee will determine if anyone besides
MANYS is allowed to apply and if so, they will pursue an
application.
-Rick Gray has been voted in as the Mayor of Lancaster, PA.
We’re hoping we don’t lose his attention from motorcycling. The
secretary will write a letter on behalf of the District to
congratulate him.
Announcements:
-The Roamers are hosting a bus trip to NYC on Saturday, Jan
21st to see the International Bike Show. Please email Pat
Schlamowitz for more info:
roamepat@aol.com.
-AM-JAM is hosting a Tattoo Expo at the Liverpool Holiday Inn
in Syracuse this Thursday, January 19-Sunday January 22nd.
