Legislative Report:

-The Yield Right of Way bill (#4914) has passed in the Senate and was signed into law by the governor. The law will become effective on November 1st, 2006. This law will take time to get implemented, so follow up on cases you know of and inform the legal system, especially judges and prosecutors.

Larry S will contact AMA National and have them send letters to the Lawyer and Judge Associations in New York to get the word out. Many kudos to Prospector who worked very hard to get this passed!

-Prospector also reported that Frank Lautenberg, a US Senator from NJ and a non-friend to motorcyclists, is starting up again with a cause to get a Federal helmet law on the books. Prospector is attending the MRF Meeting of the Minds this week and will have more information about this when he returns.

-New York ABATE welcomes two new chapters, one in Lewis County and one in Jefferson County. There are no chapters in eastern NY from Columbia County to Canada! Contact Prospector if you’d like to start one.

-Denis P and Mark Catlin will be attending the AMA Congress in early October

- contact them with any issues you would like them to bring up.

-The PAC received $17 from the Roamers and $40 at the meeting. Larry and Prospector reminded us how well-spent the money is and with it they were able to attend both the Bruno and Silver fundraisers to represent motorcyclists. If you would like to spend a day with them and our legislators, contact Larry S.

Old Business:

-Marty Hermann made a motion that the Support Our Troops money be added to the Charity Fund. This motion passed. Larry S suggested we have the spring banquet support the charity fund this year - more discussion to come at the October meeting. The charity is TBD.

-Denis P reported on the Lake Placid Run to sponsor athletes in training housed at the Lake Placid olympic facilities. He was working on it with AMA, but it will not be held this October due to insurance issues. Look for it next year.

-Mark Kuban reported that patches and T-shirts are available (via email).

Denis P brought some patches to the meeting and some were sold.

New Business:

-Denis P reported that the town of Knox, NY passed an ordinance disallowing off-road motorcycles on privately owned land, i.e. practice tracks. The county will review the ordinance and Denis P will follow up to find out the current situation.

-Larry S made a motion that $100 of the AMA Grant money be sent to the AMA Motorcycle Hall of Fame Museum. The motion passed.
