AMA MINUTESDISTRICT 3 ROAD DIVISION MEETING
OF OCTOBER 15, 2007
Chairman Mark Catlin called the meeting to order at 7:33 p.m.
11 people were in attendance, representing 7 clubs.
Secretary’s Report: was read and accepted. Two typos were
corrected on the official record.
Treasurer’s Report:
General Fund $1497.96
Emergency Fund $2996.00
AMA grant $650.00
Safety award $50.00
Charity $63.00
Legislative Report:
The NYS State Legislative session has not started yet, so
nothing to report.
AMA Congress:
Denis P, Mark C and Maggie M attended Congress.
The major issues were as follows: 1. Catlin will file an
official complaint in regards to a Field Rep.
2. The Museum and Hall of Fame attempted to up the price of a
contribution block and thereby remove previously contributed
blocks of a lower value in a small window of time unless more
money was contributed. Congress voted to recind the idea, so
existing blocks will stay posted in the Museum and Hall of Fame.
3. Mary Hurley, an AMA staff member, is retiring in November.
Congress voted to give her a recognition block at the Museum and
Hall of Fame and to also give her Congress Emeritus status,
whereby she may attend Congress at no charge.
4. The Road Committee voted to change the name of ‘Road
Division’ to ‘Recreational and Road Riding Division’. Some
sanction forms have only ‘Recreation’ riding on them, but are
still valid. The name was changed for insurance reasons and AMA
is receiving an 8% discount.
The PAC collected $45 at the meeting.
Old Business:
-Please nominate Paul Cote of Massachusetts for AMA Board
Member
start
thinking about door prizes!
-MRF Sustaining Membership dues are due. A motion was made
and voted positively to renew District 3 membership. Mark M will
follow up with payment.
New Business:
-On October 7th, a roadblock was set up for motorcycles only
on Rt 84, east of the Taconic in Dutchess County by the DMV,
State Police and local police. Over 150 tickets were issued. The
roadblock was supposedly done at the behest of a NYS
Assemblyperson who was ‘harassed’ by kids doing wheelies on
their motorcycles. Larry Moyer will look into it at the state
capitol; Mark C will find out what he can and Denis P will make
inquiries with the District 34 people.
-Denis P reported another problem for motorcyclists, this
time on the off-road front: A person is exploiting a loop-hole
in S406 of the traffic law to say that all vehicles must have
liability insurance, even if they are only used on a track and
has managed to close down some event. Denis P will contact the
DMV commissioner and AMA will be brought on board to assist.
-The Crossroads Motorcycle Club in Schoharie via Frank
Buckman would like to become an AMA Road club. Either Denis P or
Mark C will go to the club’s meeting and discuss the benefits of
joining the AMA.
