A letter from Larry Schwartz Mr. Bill Schrempf Mr. Schrempf: I write as one of the outraged witnesses to one of the most
Un-American acts I have heard about in recent times. You decided it was offensive for employees to show the
American flag in your workplace. You
decided that it would be offensive to many others who might not be
American. In fact, the only
offensive and un-American element in this very sad story is you. May I remind you, since you have obviously forgotten or
never learned it, that the American
flag is a celebration of the UNITY in the diversity of our country.
There is no one in this land, except for native Americans, who is truly
American. We are all
immigrants. Our forefathers came to
this land for freedom first and then opportunity.
So did yours. Freedom of speech is one of our most precious rights and
displaying the American flag at the workplace, far from being what you want
people to think, is a validation of the very precepts upon which this country is
based. Toleration,
acceptance, inclusion are all part of the American heritage and are all
symbolized by the American flag. Far
from being offensive, it should be a source of pride for all who are
living in America, whether citizens or not, to fly our national banner. Under this banner, you have been given the opportunity to
run a large company, to make a big salary with great benefit to you.
It has given you the right to say what you want, until what you say takes
others rights away from them. You
should be ashamed of the ignorance of our countrys heritage and rights that
you have shown. Not only that, but your actions have aided and betted the
enemy, the terrorists, who would no doubt be delighted that an influential
American businessman has joined their hatred for that which symbolizes all that
America is. You are a traitor to
the very concept upon which this country was created. In your companys annual report there are statements
about the vision and goals of the company.
One of them states: Creating a work environment so challenging and
exciting that NCCI people are
pursued by other employers, but wont leave because they cant imagine a
more fulfilling place to work. It is my fervent hope that your now beleagured and betrayed employees will not only seek other employment, but find it. It is my fervent hope that your employees will see that the pastures are not only seemingly greener at other competitors, but those pastures are real. It is my fervent hope that your Board of Directors will see fit to get rid of you as soon as possible. No one is indispensable, least of all one who would curtail his employees inalienable American rights, while exercising them, himself. You and your pseudo political correctness at a time of national crisis are a disgrace to all Americans of all colors, religions, races and ethnicities. Larry Schwartz
