AMA MINUTES

DISTRICT 3 ROAD DIVISION MEETING OF April 21, 2008

Chairman Mark Catlin called the meeting to order at 7:35 p.m.

15 people were in attendance, representing 11  clubs as well as the President of Dist. 3 & Congressman Representative of District #3

Secretary’s Report: was read and accepted. Many thanks to T Frier for filling in this month!

Treasurer’s Report:

General Fund  $1172.96

Emergency Fund:  2162.41

AMA Grant    650.00

Safety Award  $50.00 - $50.00 was given to Tom Harper

Charity    63.00

The treasurer’s report was accepted.

Legislative Report:

Prospector, our only representative of District #3, had the following report:

He attended the BEAST OF THE EAST, in Massachusetts, the annual MRF Conference.  It would be good if more of us could attend this conference as people from all over the United States attend and share the good and bad things that are happening to motorcycling in their area.

A talk with Emery about the AMA - Rob Dingman is shaking up the AMA.  Taking the interest from racing to AMA Rights.  (Denis added Pro racing) Dingman has gotten rid of the old guard and hopefully the new will be good for the AMA.

As with the DMV -  the Legislature has raided the MRF fund  for an amount of $550,000.- and put it in the General fund. We ALL should call our Assemblymen and Legislators to voice our displeasure of this money move. The proper words that should be used are “RIDER EDUCATION FUND”.  A suggestion was made to talk to snowmobiling groups to get them to speak on this as their fund has also been raided.

The Right to Repair Bill (A 5817). Asking the vehicle manufacturing companies to release computer codes and diagnostic etc. so you or an aftermarket company can fix the bike.

Senator Libbs # S7405 (not sure of this number) This bill will change the bidding for the driver education program.  It will no longer be only for  MANY’s to teach. Their 5 year contract runs out in Feb. 2009. We hope to have the Senate move on this now.  (Denis said they also are trying to get the price lowered)

Confiscation Bill passed in the Assembly.  There is no objection on the Senate side.  We just hope the DMV doesn’t interfere this year.

The motorcycle road blocks will be at the AM_JAM, Cobleskill; Harley Rendezvous, Duanesburg; Americade, Lake George.  Prospector is going to Houston and there he will find out about writing letters etc. regarding road blocks at biker events.   So far the 2010 money is not being used for these road blocks - we are keeping our eyes on this.

May is Motorcycle Safety & Awareness month.

Old Business:

The Irish Riders have sanctioned Denis Petrie’s ride for Gilda’s Club - from Boston to Oregon.  The ride will leave Boston on June 13th in the morning, then leave Latham on 6/14. A letter from Gilda’s Club is attached.  For a copy of the route contact Denis.

Americade Booth: Denis will get a 10 x10 canopy for $140.00.  The table and chairs are available at K-Mart. A suggestion was made to use PVC pipe to raise the legs, if needed. No one offered to get the table and chairs at this time.

The Safety award will be voted on at the next meeting, bring your suggestions.

New Business:

Believe it or not, there was no new business at this time.
