PIGTAILS

DIRECTOR'S CORNER

My fellow Hogs:

I hope everyone had a good riding season. It was a short one but a good one. The September meeting at the Meeting place worked out well. The room was large enough to have everybody close enough to see and hear what was going on. After listening to all the good ideas for possible fun raisers, it sure is going to be hard to pick one. By starting early we will have time to organize. So be ready for the vote next month. For me the fall is very busy, time to start planing all the winter events, the Xmas party, our potluck dinner and planning our trips for next year.

It is also time to meet new members and make new friends. Each event our club has seems to bring in new faces. We must try hard to make them want to come back. If any new members have any questions or just want to find more about our club, call Carol.

We still have a few rides left. Oct 8th we have the Griffins Toy Run. If you get the chance you should go. A lot of kids will have a better Xmas because of you. So let’s hope the fall weather will turn out to be warm and sunny. See you there!

The PAC is strongly looking for donations and support. The time for giving is coming up. John Rucinski will have the PAC bottle at each meeting for contributions.

Dan Lynch is running for assembly and he needs our support. He’s for motorcyclists and their rights.

NOMINATIONS FOR 2001

Can you believe it?!?! A whole year has gone by already. That’s not all, wait till we start talking about Thanksgiving and Christmas. It’s just toooo much!!

Every position is up for grabs and anyone who would like to take office and become more involved in this fine club, please feel free to raise your hands and speak up. It’s always nice to have fresh ideas and new faces to listen & look at. Nothing against the old, stale officers in there now, but it’s time to let the new ones take over and lend a hand. See you at the next meeting!

NEW MEMBERS

Our latest victims!!

Lee & Joanne Flammer

Ken Watkins

John Saladin

Carol Wilson (what took so long)

Welcome everyone & we hope to see you at the next monthly meeting. There’s a lot going on.

HEY DAVE SCHIES!

Word has it that Dave Schies is doing much better since his bike mishap. We’re rooting for you Dave and we hope to see you around real soon. Heal quick for a speedy recovery.

ANNUAL CHARITY RUN

For anyone who missed last months meeting, you missed an interesting one. We are looking for a needy organization to direct our fund-raiser towards for next year. We have several suggestions:

1) Fort Ann Rescue Squad,

2) Give a Child a Christmas, or

3) Prospect Child & Family Center.

Larry Googe and Linda Reynolds from Prospect Child & Family spoke at the meeting and even showed a film on the goals and operation of the center. For 50 years they have supplied disabled students with their special individual needs. Right now they are accommodating 800 families in the North Saratoga, Washington, Warren and Essex Counties and in the process of expanding their facility on the Aviation Road in Queensbury.

We will be taking a vote at the next meeting and start the process of organizing our next charity run. Please bring any feed back or ideas you may have.

The Next Monthly Meeting

October’s meeting will be held on Sunday the 15th, at the Adirondack Lounge, off exit 11.  Breakfast at 9:30 and the meeting will begin at 10:30. A lot of discussions going on, so bring any ideas you may have and share with the rest of us.

50-50 WINNER

Last months big winner was Jim Dowling with $33 who claims he never won before. It’s hard to believe that someone who’s been around as long as Jimmy has never won before!!!!!!!!!!

MAINE TOY RUN

What a great time we had!! The weather was perfect, the ride and scenery was gorgeous, and 1000’s and 1000’s of bikers showed up with a toy for the kids at Christmas time. And that’s what it’s all about—the kids!! Hope to see you at the Griffins and Blue Knights Toy Run on October 8th. Details are on the enclosed flyer.

And speaking of Maine, the Augusta Chapter has suggested that during next summer’s riding season, we get together and ride and party. They’re a great bunch of bikers that love to have a good time (don’t we all!!). George will keep in touch with them and fill us in on the details.

TRIVIA QUESTION

With much determination & intenuity, good ole Ben Nicholson found out what “ABATE” stands for. American Bikers Aimed Towards Education! Thanks Ben for sharing it with us and the next time you see Ben, I hope for your sake you know the answer!!

HOLIDAY PLANNING

Yicks!!! They’re here! The club has voted to continue to donate a Thanksgiving dinner to possibly two families in Washington County.  The club donates $50 from the treasury, plus whatever each individual may want to donate (money, baked goods, turkey, etc) and usually there’s enough for two families to buy for.

And the same goes for the Christmas families. The club will donate $200 plus whatever you may want to donate and depending on the size of the family, we’ve been able to take care of two families in the past. We have a lot of generous, caring people in this club. Donations will be taken real soon, so bring your wallets and checkbooks!

CLUB PICTURES

At McDermott’s picnic in August, our club photographer, Jan Wilson, took several club pictures. If anyone is interested in owning a picture of the finest looking motorcycle club in all America, donate $1 for her expenses.

POTLUCK DINNER

George and Carol’s annual potluck dinner is scheduled for October 28th,  229 Hulett Road in Granville at 4:00. Bring whatever dish you want to share. As you know there’s plenty of wine and soda and snakes!! I’m only kidding Fran, George killed all the snakes for his potluck soup!! Directions are simple. Take Rt 196 to Rt 40. Pass the IGA Market, take the next right onto Rt 149 and Hulett is 3 miles up on the left. We are 1 mile up Hulett Road. Don’t let the mailbox “21 Casey” fool you as you first pull onto Hulett. Granville is fortunate enough (or cursed) to have two Casey’s on the same road!!

Hope to see you there. We don’t get many visitors since we became country folk!! Call at 642-4636 if you need more info.

OCTOBERFEST

Quite a few of our members are planning a trip to Florida in October for Octoberfest. Have a great time, but most of all—ride safe. Don’t forget to bring back souvenirs for the rest of us!!
